to Radstock
Radstock is a town in Somerset, England, 9 miles (14 km) south west of Bath, and 8 miles (13 km) north west of Frome. Radstock is within the unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset. Radstock has a population of 5,275. Together with neighbouring Midsomer Norton and the smaller settlements of Clandown, Westfield and Haydon, Radstock is part of the conurbation and civil parish of Norton Radstock.
Radstock has a long tradition of coal mining. Around 1901, the Radstock area had 79 separate collieries and annual production was 1,250,000 tons per annum. However, due to narrow coal seams the number of pits gradually reduced with the last two pits, Kilmersdon and Writhlington, closing in September 1973.
Radstock also has a long history with the railways. The Great Western Railway and the Somerset and Dorset Railway both had stations and marshalling yards in Radstock. Unfortunately the last passenger train services to Radstock closed in 1966.
Radstock has also had a history of printing and packaging industries but these have now largely gone. In recent years, Radstock has increasingly become a commuter town for the nearby cities of Bath and Bristol.
Radstock is home to the Radstock Museum which is housed in a former Radstock market hall. Radstock Museum and has a range of exhibits which offer an insight into Radstock life since the 19th century including Radstock's coal mining history. The museum is well worth a visit.
Another great attraction near Radstock is the Somerset and Dorset Railway Heritage Trust. The Trust is currently restoring the Midsomer Norton train station and now has trains running on the old railway line.

Regency Construction has strong links with Radstock. The owner's family has lived in the Radstock area for more than 3 generations and is proud of his connections to the Radstock area. Jon's paternal grandfather was a train driver on the Somerset and Dorset Railway driving the Pines Express. Jon's paternal grandmother owned a Bed and Breakfast on Bath New Road, just outside of Radstock. Jon's maternal grandfather was a Radiographer in the Royal United Hospital in Bath. Jon's parents were both born and well known in Radstock. Jon's father served his apprenticeship and Strachen and Henshaw in Bath, then going on to work at Purnells printing factory in Paulton and eventually owning Coombend Fish Bar in Radstock. Jon's mother was a Counsellor working in Radstock and an active member of Radstock Methodist Church. Jon, was born and educated in Midsomer Norton, just down the road from Radstock and now lives and works in Radstock.
