Tiling is a popular, hard wearing and practical choice for floor and wall coverings. Tiling and can be used throughout the home most commonly in bathrooms and kitchens. Tiling can also be used outside as well as inside. Tiling wears well, is safe, non-flammable and easy to clean. Tiles come in a huge variety of different materials, shapes, patterns and colours.

Ceramic Tiles
Ceramic Tiles can be glazed or unglazed and do not need sealing. Ceramic Tiles are only suitable for indoor use. Ceramic Tiles can have a decorative, patterned or coloured surface.
Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain Tiles are harder wearing and more durable than ceramic Tiles. Porcelain Tiles can be glazed or unglazed. Unglazed porcelain Tiles should be sealed before and after grouting. Porcelain Tiles are generally suitable for use inside and out.

Glass Tiles are made from glass that has been cut, coloured and hand finished. Glass Tiles are available in a huge range of colours, textures and sizes. Glass Tiles are only suitable for indoor use. Glass Tiles generally come in strips or sheets of mosaics to mix 'n' match with other tiles. Glass Tiles are normally only used on walls.
Limestone Tiles
Limestone Tiles are hard wearing and can be used both inside and outside, on walls and floors. Limestone Tiles are predominately cream in colour. Limestone Tiles come in tumbled and polished finishes. Tumbled Travertine Tiles have an open sponge-like texture. Polished Travertine Tiles are filled and buffed and has a more sleek appearance.

Tavertine is type of Limestone and is hard wearing. Tavertine Tiles can be used both inside and outside. Tavertine Tiles can be used on walls and Floors. Tavertine Tile colours range from cream to tan. Tavertine Tiles come in tumbled and polished finishes.

Mosaic
Tiles
Mosaic Tiles are small tiles normally made of glass, ceramic or natural stone. Mosaic Tiles can be square, rectangular, round or irregularly shaped. They are normally supplied in small sheets where the mosaic tiles have been bonded to a flexible mesh but can also be supplied as a larger rigid tile which has been made to look like a mosaic tile. Mosaic Tiles are ideal for large expanses of wall and flowing curved surfaces . Mosaics can be used indoors or outdoors.
Border tiles are a great way of adding colour, texture or pattern to a wall or floor without overpowering the room. The size of a room can be given a whole new feel by the clever use of border tiles. Clever use of border tiles can help to accentuate a plain tile design and the use of a lavish coloured or designed border can create an impressive impact. There are is a large range of border tiles available including traditional prints, contemporary, glass and mosaic strips and natural stone.
Example of the use of Border Tiling
For sucessful tiling the wall needs to be sufficiently flat. As a general guide there should be no deviations more than 3mm in 1.8m. As a rule, the larger the tile - the flatter the surface needs to be.
Should the wall not be sufficiently flat then Regency Construction can normally rectify this problem by re-plastering (see Plastering).
The wall to be tiled also needs to be clean, dry and free from any contamination. The wall will need to be sufficiently strong to support the tiling finish.
By using the trade quality tiling primers and trade quality tiling adhesives, Regency Construction can apply tiles to the following wall surfaces:

Floor Tiling
For sucessful tiling the floor needs to be sufficiently flat. As a general guide there should be no deviations more than 3mm in 3m. As with wall tiling, the larger the tile - the flatter the surface needs to be.
Should the floor not be sufficiently flat then Regency Construction can normally rectify this problem either using floor screeding (see Screeding) or using Tile Backing boards.
The floor to be tiled also needs to be clean, dry and free from any contamination.
By using the trade quality tiling primers, trade quality tiling adhesives and trade quality tile backing boards, Regency Construction can apply tiles to the following floor surfaces:
- Concrete
- Sand and Cement Screed
- Plywood
- Tiling Backing Boards
- Asphalt
- Latex Screeds
- Existing Tiles (if not loose)
- Floorboards
- Floors with under floor heating
