If you would you like a marble finish but can not afford the cost of the marble tiles? Then Venetian Plastering could be for you.
Venetian Plastering is known by a number of different names including Italian Plastering, Polished Plastering, Polished Stucco and Stucco Veneziano.
Venetian Plastering is an ancient building technique dating back more than 5000 years that was perfected by the Romans.
The Venetian Plaster is a Slaked Lime Putty (a matured mixture of lime and sand) that is mixed with colouring pigments such as quartz, ground marble dust, kaolin (china clay).
Venetian Plaster is a classic marble-rich surface finish that replicates quarried stone and gives the room a contemporary feel. Venetian Plaster comes in a wide range of pastel and bright colours including a metallic finish. The surface of the Venetian Plaster can be left as a matt finished or polished to a high shine finish. Venetian Plaster can have a number of other textures including a fine suede and a course granular finish.
The surface to which the Venetian Plaster is to be applied is normally primed to stop the surface sucking the moisture out of the plaster to quickly. The Venetian Plaster is then typically applied in two or three thin layers using a small steel trowel, affectionately known as a "midget" trowel. The top layer of Venetian Plaster is polished in a similar way to normal gypsum plaster. This produces a matt finish. To achieve a polished finish, the plaster is allowed to dry out for 1-2 days and then a wax is applied and polished using a lambswool bonnet.
The result is a classic marble-rich surface finish that replicates quarried stone and gives the room a contemporary feel.
Venetian Plaster is ideal for bathrooms and kitchens as it is fully waterproof and very easy to clean. Venetian Plaster is long lasting and provides a surface which does not need re-painting every year.
